Understanding What Lucid Sleep Is

By Francis Lewis

Lucid sleep is basically a state in which one dreams while being aware that they are dreaming. One stays awake while in sleep.A lucid state is when the mental process exhibits the critical evaluation of real world into his image forming senses. This senses are more active in children than in adults & they are more prone to lucid dreaming.

In Lucid sleep, dream control & dream awareness is brought about by constant brain exercises.Brain is the place where the Working memories occurs. It requires recognition of the dreams & reciprocation of it when the dream is over. All these can be achieved by practice of meditation, concentration & strong will power which will help in maintaining the balance & continuing the current intensity of dreaming.

There are two key times when one enters Lucid sleep-The first state of lucid sleep termed as dream initiated lucid dream(DILD) where there is normal dreaming state, that is to say the dreamer reaches dreaming state from the introductory point of sleep & recalls his dreams after waking up.The next is Wake initiated lucid dream(WILD) where dreamer reaches dreaming state abnormally from the waking state without loosing consciousness.

Lucid sleep is scientifically verified.People who report of dreaming accidents or sudden mishaps unknown to their life are frequent lucid dreamers.Scientists explain this phenomenon as a result of accumulation of guilt, depression or any form of negative action one has undergone with & dream is where one feels secure to expose & punish oneself.

Nightmares involving accident also projects ones fears of experiencing an actual physical accident previously. They may be scared of getting behind such incidents because something similar happened in the past or the dream tried to warn one of an accident that might happen. For eg one faced exploitation or a threat to murder in the past & when he falls asleep,he gets the pseudoimage of that previous happenings in front of his eyes or may be an unmarried girl before the day for her marriage fears this happening with her after she gets with her expected person.

Another form of lucid sleep is False awakening where one suddenly feels of being awakened. This is a nemesis to the art of Lucid dreaming. As soon as they start believing the fact they are awake they stop dreaming & starts imaging daily routined activities. For eg-one may dream that he has awoken to go to bathroom, but in reality he is in his dreams inside his room only.

In all the mentioned lucid sleeps, there lies one setback of sudden awakening or loss of the dream.Investigators are still researching in it & some proposed certain theories like rubbing hands, spinning body while dreaming to prolong dream as more as possible. These include to focus in the sensory areas so that they get engaged to stop rapid eye movement & thus increase concentration. As such these may not always be successful.

Psychological studies ectablish the fact that the dream world is not at all a bizarre.More than that this Lucid sleep enhances one's judging capability to distinguish between what is reality & what is imagination to built up a solid dream journal because one stays in consciousness unlike normal dreaming session.

So could we say that lucid sleep are moments of our minds dwelling at a very subconscious state where we have a control over our thoughts and memories, and still are aware of the rational reality outside the body.
