Top 5 Things To Do In December

By John Sully

The Minneapolis winters have a wide variety of activities to offer it's residents and it's visitors. I would like to list a few of the most popular activities to do in December in the Minneapolis Area. I have found that the Top Five things to do in Minneapolis are The Holidazzle Parade, Ice Skaing, The Mall Of America, Ice Fishing and The Walker Art Center. No Matter what one you choose you will definitely be able to have a fun experience and hopefully see something new.

Go to the Holidazzle Parade: It's on Nicollet Mall in Downtown Minneapolis. The Parade starts at 6:30pm Thursday through Sunday until December 19th 2010. There is no admission so it is a great free activity. This is the 19th consecutive year of the parade. Be sure to bring a thermos and grab some hot chocolate or hot apple cider while you are down there. Have fun and stay warm!

Go Ice Fishing: Ice fisherman and woman have been out like crazy and the catching has been great with the fresh ice. Many of the area lakes have enough ice to get out and do some fishing. I have only fished the lakes in the northern metro so far but I have heard that Lake Harriet and Lake Nokomis have been producing Northern Pike and Walleye in pretty good number so far this season. (be sure to check the ice for safety before going out on the ice)

Go to the Mall Of America: Visit the Mall Of America which has a full sized theme park, Nickolodeon Universe as well as Underwater World which is a huge salt water aquarium with an underwater tunnel that you can walk through and see all from below and Lego Land which is filled with Lego master pieces for your viewing pleasure. Address: Mall of America - 8100 S 24th Ave, Bloomington, MN

Go ice skating: There are 100's of ice rinks in the Minneapolis Metro Area. Many of them offer affordable skate rental and low admission rates, there are also many free rinks around the area as well. The Depot is a very popular rink located in Downtown Minneapolis. Be sure to bundle up and if you rent skates make sure they fit properly so you don't get any blisters.

Go to The Walker Art Center: The Walker Art Center is always a great in door activity for when it is cold outside. Tuesday-Sunday, 11 am-5 pm, Open late Thursday, 11 am-9 pm, Closed Mondays and major holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr., President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Admissions run from $6.00 to $10.00. Address: 1750 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, Minnesota 55403

Hopefully you will be able to squeeze a couple of these thins into your busy schedule this year, if you are going to go in any certain order you might want to start out with the Holidazzle Parade because it only runs for a limited time. No matter what attraction you decide to visit make sure you bundle up and get ready for the cold weather this season!
