Ensure Your Christmas Celebration Is A Success.

By Gerald Bore

Organising Xmas parties for friends and family or work colleagues can be a daunting prospect. There are a number of fail safe ways to make sure it's a success, however. The most important things are quite simple to arrange and will inevitably result in a perfect party. Make sure your Xmas party is a success.

The music and entertainment is crucial to making your party memorable. There's nothing worse than a room full of people having to make awkward conversation with strangers. You might choose a local band or a DJ. The obvious entertainment choice is a Santa, but perhaps you could go for something a little more unique like a balloon modeller or a magician, maybe even a comedian or impersonator.

Accommodating your guests can be more difficult. In order to get this right, work out where the furthest away guests would be travelling from to any venue you are considering, and then decide whether you would be willing to drive that far if you were them. Also, think about the number of guests you are realistically likely to have. Too small a hall and they will be crammed on top of one another, and too large a venue and people will be rattling around like pin balls. Price is also important, and will vary hugely from venue to venue.

Obviously, Christmas dinner is standard fare at an Xmas party, but make sure there are a couple of other options, including one veggie choice to keep everybody happy. Similarly, make sure that there are a couple of dessert choices as not everybody likes the traditional puddings. If it's a buffet, ensure everything's clearly labelled to avoid confusion.

It's unnecessary to plan party activities for your guests, especially if you've invested time and money in finding an entertainer. Party games are always an option, particularly if you want to force work colleagues to bond, but guests will tend to look after themselves. People come to a party determined to enjoy themselves, so that's one thing they will do.

If you have a theme for the Xmas party, make sure you include it on the invites to avoid anyone feeling unprepared or embarrassed. It might be best to let people choose their own party clothes, particularly for a non work do, as the less confident guest can feel less like attending when there is a compulsory dress code. The main thing is that your guests have a great time.

Provided you find the time to focus on the big things, everything else will slot into place. Let people enjoy themselves; don't worry too much about them. Just sort the food, venue and entertainment and let the rest sort itself out.
