Buying a Transportable 10 inch DVD Nowadays is Challenging

By Alex Gabriel

Going out on a family road trip, any parent in the front seat would wish for a distraction to amuse the kids back in the passenger area with. Something they can watch their CSI and Sex and the City DVDs with and giggle once in a while when they find something a bit naughty or shocking. A 10 inch portable DVD player is just the thing to use to help quiet things down back there.

Let's look at two of the leading players in the market now portable DVD players. We would consider a smaller player, but he needs a robust sound to be of any interest in the backseat on a road trip and those come mainly on the bigger players. Let's consider two, the Toshiba SD-P101S and the RCA DRC6331B.

With Toshiba, it has 10.2 inch screen and the DVD player is actually DivX certified. Also, its screen swivels and the player as a whole is so versatile. It is available with a card slot plus it is capable of playing of different media stored in different types of data cards. This player costs around $300 on Amazon while other players of this type which is the RCA just costs around half the Toshiba price.

For the money, the sacrifices seem a little on the high side. To begin with, this is player with no DivX capabilities. It can play DVDs and audio CDs, and that's all. If these are the only kinds of media you wish to play, this is a great little player.

The Toshiba has a superb image that holds up nicely even in daylight , not unless there's somebody placing directly around the display screen. The battery normally lasts for about five hrs, and for that kind of stamina, you might think it is a large machine. Moreover, if there is only one thing that is really bad about players is that it only has 3 months warranty.

Also the other portable ten inch DVD player that has good image quality is called the RCA. The battery nonetheless usually lasts for less than around three hrs, which is already good enough for you to play a full-length film or possibly two on it.

So which should it be? The RCA is clearly a much more limited machine in every way. Not only does it not play anything other than standard DVDs, it has issues trying to stay alive for longer durations. Is it worth it to buy the Toshiba for your extra money? While it's features are great, Toshiba really doesn't need to overcharge its products, and for this reason, you might want to look elsewhere.
